Political Background

I have a passion for local government, beginning in 2000 when I volunteered and went door to door for a local judicial race, followed by working on a couple of local school levies.

Having lived all my life in Perrysburg Township, in 2003 I became more interested in decisions being made by the Township Trustees.  A friend suggested that I’d need to get a seat ‘on the other side of the table’ in order to make a difference, and after a bit of deliberation,  I decided to run for office for the first time.

Winning the three-way race was a pleasant surprise, and I began elected public service in January, 2004 as a Perrysburg Township Trustee.  I was re-elected in 2008 and 2012, and served 8 of the 12 years on the Board of Trustees as President or Vice-President.

In the summer of 2015, I was getting ready to start another re-election campaign when Jim Carter announced his retirement as Commissioner. Although I had been thinking about serving in a broader capacity a few years down the road, Jim’s retirement created a more immediate opportunity to serve the County, and I sought and received appointment to the seat in July, 2015 and was elected to a full four-year term in November, 2016 and another in November, 2020.

Serving as a County Commissioner has been a rewarding experience – I work with a wonderful team of staff members and other elected officials, and there are greater opportunities to make a difference in the lives of others.  Part of what makes Wood County so great is the spirit of cooperation that exists between our various elected officials and leaders.

Thank you to the citizens of Wood County for allowing me to serve another term.
